Understanding the importance of form stability of a gel implant is closely related to the shape of an implant. Implants can be made in a round shape or in a teardrop (anatomic) shape.

There is a reason that anatomic implants are usually made out of form stable gel, while round implants are usually made with a non-form stable gel. Or said in reverse, form stable gels are usually put into anatomic implants while non-form stable gels are usually put into round implants.

All four possibilities exist, but the types circled in red are the most common way that implants are manufactured, and you will see that it is that way for a reason.
