This quote comes from a respected breast surgeon in an editorial in which he was making the point that plastic surgeons cannot really affect the shape of a breast. He’s trying to say that all we can do is make them bigger.

In my opinion he is somewhat (but not entirely) correct with regards to non-form stable implants. But after looking at hundreds of my own patients with form stable implants, I can see quite clearly how my selection of the implant quite clearly affects the final shape of the breast.

The bottom line is this: does a patient want her breasts stuffed or shaped? Is a plastic surgeon a breast stuffer or a breast shaper? While not ideal for every patient, the form stable implant certainly gives a patient an opportunity for the highest degree of predictability and control of shape – as well as longevity.
